It’s Your Right

Curriculum Unit (pdf)

Synopsis

In this unit, it is my hope that students are able to understand their rights and their basic wants and needs. If their basic wants and needs are not met, I want students to understand what it is that they could do next. Students should know who they can reach out to for support and what can be done to assist them. In addition, I will also cover the idea of social responsibility within this unit. Students will work to explore the idea of passivity as it pertains to respect for self and respect for others.  By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

  • Identify their basic wants and needs
  • Explain at least two things they can do if their basic wants and needs are not being met
  • Identify at least two people who can help them if their basic wants and needs are not being met
  • Explain why it is important to not only have respect for themselves, but also for others
