Rebecca Lintz, ESL, East Mecklenburg High school
Many of my ESL students have vivid stories from their home countries, which they have not shared with others. Some may not even realize how fascinating their stories may be to others. This curriculum unit serves as a way for my students to share their stories, their culture, and their experiences with other students, family, and friends. While teaching high school, I have discovered that teenagers rely heavily on technology in their everyday lives (as do I). Because of this, students will take their journal writings to create a digital story related to their home country. This curriculum unit is also intended to show students the therapeutic effects of private journal writing as well as publishing writing for a specific audience.
