Abstract

This curriculum unit looks at ethical issues in science and medicine. Students will use articles about various ethical issues to respond to with questions. The primary issues that will be looked at are grave robbing, both historic and modern, cloning, and designer babies. The primary strategy that will be used in this unit is the Socratic seminar, which is a strategy that encourages dialogue, not debate, among students. It is a method meant to generate as many questions as it answers. This unit is being used with a seventh grade science classroom, but could easily be modified for a wide range of grade levels.
